Programme

What is the price - economically, technically and from a spatial planning perspective – of high speed rail? Under what geographical, urban development and marketing conditions does high speed rail make sense? In what respects does high speed rail travel change the human spatial reference framework, for example: commuting and urban development, socio-cultural loss of grounding? Why and how did today's conventional wheel/rail tech-nology become generally accepted? What are the alternatives? And: who wants/must/can travel so fast today and in the future?

Leaders and specialists from universities, transport enterprises, industry, administration and politics will discuss answers to these questions from history, technology, economics, cultural anthropology and psychology at the conference.
