Abstract

The Univox survey of the year 2003 concerning the traffic section focuses on the one hand on the analysis of the ownership and usage of mobility resources, such as driving licence, car and tickets for public transport, and on the other hand on the residential mobility or long term moving behaviour of the Swiss population.

The analysis regarding the mobility resources ownership and usage concentrates on the development during the course of the last three Univox surveys.

The ownership of driving licences and cars is strongly influenced, besides gender and age, by employment and household income. The ownership of public transport tickets is considerably determined by car availability, where persons owning a car show a noticeably lower public transport tickets ownership.

The usage is very much determined by the availability of mobility resources. The average number of trips by public transport increases together with the ownership of public transport tickets. The same applies for the ownership of cars and the private transport.

The analysis regarding the residential mobility deals primarily with the long term moving behaviour of the respondents. Altogether 83.6% of men und 85.6% of women changed their place of residence until now. Within the last decade both gender moved in average nearly once. Concerning residential mobility persons aged between 25 and 34 years are most mobile, followed by persons aged between 35 and 44 years. These two groups show the highest share of persons who moved at least once in their life so far as well as the highest number of moves within the last ten years. Furthermore their last move took place the shortest time ago.
